The Importance of Play

At Overdale Preschool, we believe in the power of learning through play. Our aim is to help children build independence and self-confidence by allowing them to lead their own learning. Play is central to how young children learn and develop, enabling them to practise new skills, communicate with others, and make sense of the world around them. We embrace in-the-moment play, ensuring that all activities and opportunities support every area of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Our sessions strike a balance between spontaneity—following the children’s interests as they arise—and structured group time led by an adult, giving children the freedom to explore while also benefitting from shared experiences.

Pupils make a strong start in preschool. The aspirational preschool curriculum and learning environment inspires children to learn through play. Staff nurture children well to be independent and curious. The school lays firm foundations for learning mathematics across the early years. Children secure number facts and counting through appropriate activities. Children use the language that they hear in stories when they play

We welcome children from 3 years of age, we accept both the universal FEE funding and the extended 30 hours. We offer morning, afternoon sessions and full days 

Parents can use the funding for their children to access 5 mornings, afternoons or 2.5 Full Days.

Those entitled to 30 hours could access (depending on availability) 5 full days.

We are fortunate to have a long-standing and experienced team of Early years practitioners. Our team consists of a full time class teacher, a level 3 teaching assistant and level 2 teaching assistants.
